Civic & Ceremonial Regalia
At Buck & Co Jewellers we are proud offer the services of an experienced and qualified Master Goldsmith for the repair and restoration of all types of regalia. When working with irreplaceable items of historic importance it is vital you trust only the most skilled and practised artisans.

We fully appreciate the demands made on all types of regalia as working tools of Councils, Governments, Societies and many other organisations. Wear, tear and age can cause unintentional damage, and over time sections may be lost.
The Process:
Our Master Goldsmith can provide a full assessment for repairs, and has the skills to handcraft missing elements providing a sympathetic repair which fits with the aesthetic of the original piece.

All work is conducted with traditional Gold and Silversmithing techniques similar to those with which these historic items were made. This includes 22ct gilt finishing where appropriate.

We will discuss with you in detail your requirements, from a light clean or to a full restoration project.

After the consultation process, we provide a detailed plan of works, with written estimates to suit particular budgets. We are can provide photographs and explanations of proposed works to assist with financial planning to board members, for example.

We are also happy to advise on storage conditions and the long term maintenance of these historic pieces to ensure their longevity for the future generations.

A recently completed Mayoral Chain Restoration & Repair
We were honoured and proud recently to have been asked to work on some historic pieces of solid gold and silver civic regalia. Some of the work we do here at Buck & Co. Jewellers, Goldsmiths and Diamond Mounters we do not share publicly, but we have been given kind permission to share these images of our Goldsmith working on these fabulous pieces.

Our in-house Goldsmith is experienced at assessing, repairing and restoring pieces such as these which not only have a material value, but also historic and social importance in the life of communities and organisations up and down the county. Originally pieces of regalia such as this would have been crafted by Goldsmiths of the highest level, and it is these traditional skills and knowledge acquired through years of experience which are still required to ensure a sympathetic level of restoration and care.

These specific pieces of 18ct gold and silver civic regalia were in need of some sympathetic maintenance and repairs to keep them functioning safely and securely as working tools of office. After this was completed some light cleaning was required to remove the dirt and grime, but not the naturally aged patina that these beautifully aged pieces have accumulated through years of use and handling.

As always, it is an honour and a privilege to be entrusted with such beautiful pieces, and to ensure their long term viability as working tools of office and their survival for future generations.
